'Rhea Ko Phasao Drama', Sonam Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap And Others Sign An Open Letter Addressed To News Media
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Zoya Akhtar, Gauri Shinde, Anurag Kashyap and Aditi Mittal have signed an open letter addressed to the Indian news media expressing displeasure over the alleged media trial of Rhea Chakraborty.
Rhea Chakraborty has been ruling the headlines ever since Sushant Singh Rajput has passed away. The late actor's father leveled some serious allegations like abetment to suicide and more against Rhea. Now, the actress stands arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drug probe related to Sushant Singh Rajput's death. While netiznes have been demanding justice for Sushant, quite a few even came out in support of Rhea Chakraborty and raised concern over the alleged media trial carried out by a few Indian news channels. Now, stars like Sonam Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar, and others have signed an open letter that expresses displeasure over the same.
The letter starts with a question. Addressing the 'news media of India, it begins with "We, are worried about you. Are you feeling ok?" Then it goes on to talk about how male members of the fraternity are treated as compared to women. It reads, "We know you can be different - because we have seen you be kind and respectful to the Salman Khans and Sanjay Dutts of this world, urging us to think of their families, fans and careers. But, when it comes to a young woman who has not even been proven to commit any crime, you have assassinated her character, egged an online mob on demonise her and her family, fuelled wrongful demands and called her arrest your victory," ''
The letter further mentions that the news media chose to, "endlessly violate her privacy and work overtime on false accusations and moralistic innuendo for a drama of 'Rhea ko phasao'". Over 2500 people have signed this open letter, as per reports.
Earlier stars like Vidya Balan, Huma Qureshi, Saqib Saleem, Kareena Kapoor Khan and many others had supported Rhea by sharing "Roses are red, violets are blue, let's smash patriarchy, me and you" post on social media.
